The call to be a disciple of Jesus is the highest of all callings. It surpasses all other duties known among man because it is a call to love and serve your Maker and Savior. Jesus made this clear in His teaching on what it meant to be His disciple. This teaching does not negate other duties. As believers we are to love our spouse, yet our higher call to discipleship informs how we love our spouse. We are only able to love our spouse as the Bible calls us to love them by a greater love for God that motivates us to love our spouses – especially when they are not lovely.
