1 Samuel records the anointing of the first two kings in Israel.  Saul was the first, followed by David.  To compare the two men, you would mostly contrast their differences.  Saul was a man in which some good can be found, yet is remembered mostly for his sins – the sins which led to the loss of his throne for his family.  On the other hand, David appears in 1 Samuel as the type of man that would make a biblical king: he feared God most of all, and was willing to rule over God’s people while under the lordship of God, the true king.  Yet, which was the kind of king we need?  At first appearance, David would be the answer. Yet, a closer examination of David’s life shows his own set of shortcomings.  In the end, the king that Israel (and all mankind for that matter) really needed would not come for another 1,000 year.  Yet, the king did come when Jesus came to earth.  He is the true king, who fought and won a great victory (over sin and death), and we await His return when every knee will bow and tongue confess that He is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.  To listen to this sermon, please click on the following link: 1 Samuel 9-31.
